A It's a couple of things. First, I wanted to explore a world where the line between good guys and bad guys became blurred. Werewolves are one of my favorite paranormal creatures--animal instincts make for killer action! And the love story is not what you'd expect. A racial divide combined with all the hormones and feelings of a teenaged girl with a stubborn streak and a mysterious guy who has experienced more loss than most people can handle.
The whole series is designed to make you fall in love--with the characters and the story. You'll definitely want to turn the page to find out what happens next and whether they'll kiss or kill!

Dirty Blood is an action-packed adventure filled with deceit, violence, gore, and wonderful battle scenes.

I have every one of these books and they're all amazing reads. I have reviewed them all separately, but just to give you a taste of how epic this set is, here's my Dirty Blood review:

PROS:

Dirty Blood is an action-packed adventure filled with deceit, violence, gore, and wonderful battle scenes. The descriptions of the fighting, the slashing, the suspense is enough to hook you from the get go.

The world of the Hunters and the Werewolves is fueled by politics, prejudice, and murder. The sheer ingrained hatred between the two groups, the horror at hybrids or mixed bloods, and the vile plots on the rebels werewolves are ingenious, multi-layered, and meticulously plotted.

Tara is a crafty, dirty fighter. She has a brutal, raw talent that comes from fierce determination and a willingness to fight to the death to protect those she cares about. While Tara is sometimes stubborn to a fault, hot-headed, and too confident on occasion, as her power grows, she becomes a powerful, compelling protagonist. Tara leaps before she looks, jumps headfirst into a fight and takes many punches but never gives up. Because she has not grown up in the Hunter/Werewolf world she is able to see things in an unbiased, clearer way that the characters who have been raised on prejudice, this is refreshing and a great parallel to the plot.

Fee, Jack, Cord, and the rest of the crew were each vibrant, unique personalities that really represented the colorful variety of people within the Cause. Fee is that calming, warm mother figure that can bake you brownies and take down a monstrous wolf singlehandedly, she’s kind of badass. Jack is that bear-like father-figure, burly and strong, always calculated and brave. For some reason I picture him like the Brawny man:) Cord is that classic, snotty, catty female that you’re not sure about. She comes off as cold and heartless but flashes of her jaded personality suggest that there just might be something great hidden beneath the hard exterior.

Wes is frustrating in that glorious, teasing way. He’s flirty, blunt, sarcastic, and loves to push Tara’s buttons much to her chagrin. But his past is a twisted one, full of heartache and overcoming those who would kill him or kick him when he’s down. Labeled as a dirty blood early on Wes must live with his lineage and become a better person because of it. Wes is a leader, wicked fast and deadly in battle, he plans, coordinates strike teams, and uses his heritage for the greater good of the Cause. When he’s not fighting his feelings, he’s sweet, full of heat and smoldering looks.

The chemistry between Wes and Tara is a slow burning fire, magnetic but it’s one that builds into a scorching blaze. No matter how they try to resist their connection, it’s there tempting and taunting.

CONS:
The final battle scene was a little random. The characters just disappearing from sight in a split second was a bit unbelievable, where did they go?

I am a fan of Heather Hildebrand as a gifted author...but this particular series was not the best by far. I was a little disappointed by the plot and vacillating on the part of the heroine with regard to her romantic choices and stupid decisionmaking skills. I feel this series was just not something I could truly get into. I did read all three books in this set because this author has a rare talent keeping the story alive and moving. It just wasnt my style, I guess.

I enjoyed this series and really hope it continues on. The first book was a free promo which let me to purchase this all-in-one "omnibus" (that is a new term for combo, I guess?) and am glad I did. The story line is creative and not stereotypical of the usual werewolf fodder out there. The characters were interesting and I liked the love triangles. Hope the next one comes out soon!

An informative book.

Jacob Liberman, who has doctorates in both optometry and vision science, says that the people who live on Earth evolved to thrive under the light put forth by our sun. He says, therefore, that we potentially harm ourselves when we hide from sunlight. In Light: Medicine Of The Future: How We Can Use It To Heal Ourselves Now, he explains how to utilize the therapeutic benefits of light. Dr. Liberman says that "light is the basic component from which all life originates, develops, heals, and evolves." Everything that humans do is affected in some way by light. Light has been used for healing since the time of ancient Egypt. Modern scientists began recognizing the benefits of light therapy in the late 1700's. Although many people believe the ultraviolet (UV) light is harmful, Dr. Liberman maintains our bodies need at least a small amount of UV light in order to function properly. He cites studies which indicate that, due to all the ways in which we block sunlight from our lives, including wearing sunglasses designed to block out UV rays, "it is possible that we are unknowingly contributing to the increased incidence of blindness and eye disease in this country." Dr. Liberman does warn against looking at the sun directly, or exposing ourselves to it between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., but emphasizes that light is a nutrient for the body. He says people need to be outside in natural light, without sunglasses or sun block, for a minimum of one hour a day. He warns that warm-white and cool-white fluorescents "should absolutely be avoided." People who cannot get outside regularly need to equip their work areas with full-spectrum light fixtures. Syntonics is the name given to light therapy, which involves utilizing specific colors for healing specific ailments. Dr. Liberman discusses its benefits in treating vision problems, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), cancer, and learning disabilities. He says that "as we continue to discover and understand the role that light plays in our lives, its use as both a therapeutic and preventive tool will become more evident." Because each individual is different, Light: Medicine of the Future doesn't get into prescribing particular colors for each potential illness. It is an invaluable reference, however, for all those interested in natural healing. Extensive appendices provide sources of supplies and a listing of light therapy practitioners.

Great Information for Those Interested in Healing With Color

I found this book very enlightening. A must read for anyone who is interesed in holistic healing, especially with light and color. In the book Dr. Liberman tells of healing with a series of 20 colors. It would be great if he revealed in the book what these colors are. Missing is a "how to" section that would enable people to put his discoveries into practice.

Powerful healing tools

This book is excellent and opens the reader to the possibilities of alternative practices through the use of color therapy for healing that are potent, powerful, and profound. I would also recommend "Light Years Ahead" for the first book, followed by this book. Dr. Liberman reveals a strength of vision and depth of experience in his new book which connects the reader to the many possibilities of very real healing with color.

Great Approach to Coaching and Excellent Value

This volume is one in a series of four titles and the best praise that I can give this book is that I want the other titles. In Deliberate Soccer Practice: 50 Defending Football Exercises to Improve Decision-Making, Ray Power provides an excellent introduction that sets the stage for his approach and the topic. The deliberate practice method takes modern coaching principles of engaging players mentally and physically in real game situations. Each exercise clearly declares the purpose, set-up, instructions, and progressions to increase the challenge for payers. Best of all, however, are the list of challenges and questions included for use with players. Using questions demands players be switched-on and called into the decision-making process, helping them find their own creative solutions to game-related problems while maximizing the quality of training time. All the exercises in this title begin with these real game situations from the individual to full side, including position-specific details. There are even specific scenario practices. I have read a lot of coaching title and this is excellent value for the price -- no glossy, color images just insight and knowledge about coaching the game.

Let the pictures tell their tales, skip the dissertations

This is a handsome folio, excellent illustration quality. However I found much of the editorials to be very ham handed and overbearing. But it has introduced me to a couple new artists, and revealed pieces by some of my favorite painters that I had never glimpsed before. A solid addition to my collection.

The idea of the exhibition and book is a fine one, but the essays aren't particularly good

The idea of the exhibition and book is a fine one, but the essays aren't particularly good. The authors may be knowledgeable in art history, but not so much in the history of Great Depression or American history in general. And they seemed to overlook obvious aspects of some of the painting -- that Grant Wood, for example, had a fine wry sense of humor, or that Thomas Hart Benton found as much bitterness in the countryside as he did its good qualities. Nor do the essayists seem to understand that all the painters here were greatly affected by Modernism, and that rather than being backward-looking, the Regionalists, for example, were simply looking in a different direction than the more conventional Modernists. Much of the rumination seems informed by contemporary political issues rather than the situation at the time. The selection of paintings is excellent, and the reproduction is quite good as well.

An Excellent Review with Insigntful Comments

This is a gorgeous book by any standards. The reproductions are quite good and the authors have done a grand job illustrating a grand period of mid-century, American art. I highly recommend this work. I have waited years to see all these paintings together and I am very pleased. We had a wonderful time visiting this exhibition and were inspired by almost every work.

Database Upgrades and Migrations is a very huge area, there are different combinations involving settings in source database, target database, source environments, target environments, methods to migrate/upgrade, and all the bugs that you can find etc. So many things that sometimes we don't know how or where to start learning it. If you feel like you must know it but you don't know how to start, and from which book to learn because you don't want to waste your time reading a book that won't be useful for you, I recommend this book. With this book you will know the most important methods and you will get a clear idea of how to start in this lake of knowledge, for sure this book will be useful for you and your career. Once you complete this book, you will start talking about migration and upgrades like a pro :)

A rare and valuable book on Oracle upgrades and migrations.

Full disclosure - I was the tech reviewer for this book. I agreed to review because there are very few single sources of information for the topic that span the range of methods to upgrade or migrate between database types, vendors, versions and use different techniques based on the criteria and business reasons for upgrading. In class, I was often asked how to handle a variety of upgrade or migration scenarios, and this is truly the first book I have seen that identifies many of the possibilities and techniques. The book provides a framework to follow, shows different scenarios in which to use the techniques, and helps understand the various costs and benefits associated with each technique. If nothing else, it is worth reading to give some ideas how to start to approach your upgrade or migration.

Down to earth, practical guide on forecasting.

The book provides coverage of three important areas:
- Basic forecasting tools and methods - summarizing data, statistical tools, regression, as well as some material on more advanced forecasting methods
- Data preparation - time series decomposition, smoothing methods
- A discussion of the issues involved in forecasting - long term versus short term forecasting, accuracy of forecasts, the importance and limitations of judgmental forecasts and combining these with statistical forecasts
I was fortunate enough to stumble across this book in a colleagues office and believe this book should belong in every market research professional's shelf.

Excellent book written with the practitioner in mind. Mathematical formalism kept to a minimum. The last 4 chapters (about judgmental forecasting and practical aspects of forecasting) are a plus vs. other books.

This book was not only recommended, but given to me as a MUST READ at work. Excellent practical approach to the theory with a minimum of formulation. Good practical examples and demos. I recommend it as a training manual for new analysts on the job.
