Given that he was a practicing Catholic, it is unlikely that he attended s�ances, and therefore his opinion on spirit communication, clairvoyance, and mediumship in general, may not come from personal experience. That said; he comes across as an honest skeptic (rather than a debunker) with some empathy for his subjects. Explaining his position he says, The role of Devil's Advocate is a thankless one and does not make for popularity, Indeed, I may confess that, when writing somewhat in the character of a doubting Thomas, I have felt at times, in spite of good intentions, that I was even playing a mean and an unworthy part. Why, I have asked myself, should a skeptical line of argument be put forward which may possibly trouble the simple faith of many good people much nearer and dearer to God than I can ever hope to be? And yet in these days of widespread education, universal questioning and free discussion, a premature and ill-grounded credulity cannot in the long run be of advantage to the Church. The Christian has to be able to justify his beliefs, and adequate equipment for an encounter with rationalists or agnostics requires some previous study both of the position, which it is intended to take up and of the form of attack to which that position may be exposed. "The Physical Phenomena of Mysticism" is essential reading for those interested in Catholic mysticism, and physical and psychic phenomena often attributed to miracles.

Good book for the skeptic

Excellent book. The author does a great job of citing all kinds of sources pertaining to all the claims.

He presents the evidence available on certain cases, and draws conclusions from what's available. Don't let the fact that its written by a priest deter you. He is very objective. This is the most in-depth book available on the subject.

(Montague Summers has a book by the same title, but I believe it is different. Don't confuse the two.

Interesting read

I read this book because it was referenced in another book I was reading about incorrupt saints. The author (a priest) covers incorrupt saints as well as stigmatics, ecstasies, etc. One of the most fascinating things to me was about people who consumed nothing other than the Holy Eucharist for years. Some were proven to be frauds, while others appear genuine. Very interesting.

I was looking for a book that would provide information and help on making architectural models. This book pretends to provide such information. It is really just a treatise on architectural model making with absolutely no details on how to make a model.

If you're interested in the history of architectural model making then it isn't a bad book. But if you are looking for information on how to make models, techniques and materials, this isn't the book you need.

What are the effects of treating military services as a commodity for the governing rules of the international system? Overall, The Morality of Private War argues that private military force leads to not only contingent moral problems stemming from the lack of effective regulation, but also several deeper, more fundamental problems that mean that public force should be preferred. Nevertheless, it also argues that, despite these problems, PMSCs can sometimes (although rarely) be morally permissibly used. Ultimately, The Morality of Private War argues that the challenges posed by the use of PMSCs mean that we need to reconsider how military force ought to be organized and to reform our thinking about the ethics of war and, in particular, Just War Theory.

About the Author

James Pattison, Senior Lecturer in Politics, University of Manchester

Dr James Pattison's research interests include humanitarian intervention, the responsibility to protect, the ethics of war, and the increased use of private military and security companies. His first book, Humanitarian Intervention and the Responsibility to Protect: Who Should Intervene?, published by Oxford University Press, was awarded a 'Notable Book Award' by the International Studies Association (International Ethics Section). His PhD on humanitarian intervention was awarded the Sir Ernest Barker Prize for Best Dissertation in Political Theory by the Political Studies Association. He has published various articles on the ethics of force, including for Ethics & International Affairs, European Journal of Political Theory, International Theory, Journal of Military Ethics, Journal of Applied Philosophy, and Journal of Political Philosophy. He is a Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Manchester.

I love animal stories. I really liked the Ga'Hoole books, so I decided to add this series to my Kindle too. I have yet to start it, but I am looking forward to reading all of Erin Hunter's books.

Erin hunter gals are great authors. I love reading their books.
I love reading about talking animals and they convey what I would suspect is going on in a animals head.

Book description is Misleading

The book description: "When they encounter another group of dogs who survived the Big Growl, Lucky hopes that they can work together as allies—but this new Pack may be their most dangerous enemy yet." Is incredibly misleading! This pack has hardly anything to do in the book other than posing a threat. Never, not once did any of the dogs think they could work together with this new pack. Almost from the first meeting everyone knew that this pack would tear them to shreds because of their mad, crazy Alpha and that there would be no way to talk things out!

I enjoyed this book much more than the others. Probably because Lick started taking a bigger role in the books. Her personality seemed a bit strange though, she seems to act aggressive at seemingly random times when the rest of the time she is a level headed pup. I still am not a fan of Alpha's new personality, it's still fractured and unusual - he doesn't seem to be at all what he was portrayed as in the first books. In fact in this book he has really embraced that sense of paranoia, distrust and the inability to make decisions for his pack on his own; all while being bundled up in a blanket of anger and frustration.
